In Loving memory of Richard Kabi |

OBITUARY

Richard Motlotso (Ndo) Kabi was born on the 10th August 1962 in Evaton, Gauteng. He was a remarkable man whose life story is one of resilience, determination, and deep passion for community. Richard was born as the fifth of six children to the late Pakalitha Caswell Kabi and Ntswaki Elizabeth Kabi and was the only surviving sibling. He grew up with a strong foundation in family values and hard work. It was at Selelekela High School in QwaQwa, where he met his beloved wife of forty-three years (43), Mampoi Mignon Petunia Mokuena-Kabi, with whom he shared a life full of love, challenges, and triumphs.

Together, Richard and Mampoi raised two children: their daughter, Mookho Mignonette Elizabeth Kabi-Mantashe, and their son, Disema Caswell Kabi, as well as their granddaughter Anathi Mantashe. Richard was a true entrepreneur, beginning with just a single taxi and building a legacy that would inspire many. Known for his sharp mind, strong personality, and fierce loyalty, he crafted his own path to success, while remaining passionate about uplifting marginalized communities. His love for soccer, especially Kaizer Chiefs, was a key part of his identity, and he was a mentor to many people across different walks of life

Richard’s journey was not without its challenges, but he turned every hardship into an opportunity for growth. He faced adversity with a positive outlook, never meeting a stranger he did not know and always seeing the potential in others. His commitment to bettering the lives of those around him made a lasting impact on many. Music was also a great passion of his, further enriching his life and the lives of those who knew him.

After a long illness, he was called home on Boxing Day, 26th December 2024 surrounded by his wife and children at the Midstream MediClinic in Centurion.

Richard leaves behind a lasting legacy in all his sons, daughters and grandchildren, and countless other family members, friends, and mentees who were fortunate to know him. His life serves as a testament to hard work, love, and the belief that everyone has the potential to succeed, no matter what the circumstances.
